OVERVIEW
________________________________________________________________
As initiated by California Assembly Bill 1913 in 2000, the Juvenile Justice Crime Prevention Act (JJCPA) has provided hundreds of millions in funding to various California countries to effectuate the proactive prevention of juvenile crimes. CLASS Parks, a division of the Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks, has devised the Youth Employment Internship Program (YEIP).

YEIP provides hundreds of at-risk risk youth with pragmatic life skills (e.g. money management, professional etiquette, resume composition, job seeking etc.) valuable for facilitating a youth's transition into life after high school. The life skills instructors are complemented by distinct internship training courses in1) Camp Counselor Leadership Training, 2) Community Sports Officiating, 3) Ford Theatre and 4) Film Production.

Through funding allotted by the County, YEIP continually expands the program to reach additional at-risk youth and broaden the internship training courses. With successful results because of the genesis of YEIP, improvements and enhancements will continue to meet the JJCPA objectives by serving the community with a highly effective proactive deterrence of youth criminal activities.

Internship training is conducted year round on designated Saturdays. Certificates of Completion are presented upon the conclusion of sixty-four hours of classroom work.

INTERNSHIP JOB TRAINING COURSES

Crime Scene Investigation _____________________________________________
Interns will learn the art of Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) with hands on experiments. Each week interns will work closely with law enforcement officers to gain the knowledge of various forensic science skills. Interns will train in such areas as fingerprinting, casting, DNA analysis, toxicology, entomology, blood spatter testing, and deductive reasoning. Crime scene scenarios will be staged for educational purposes. Officers will instruct on maintaining a crime scene as interns actively participate in collecting data and analyzing it in a lab setting. Interns will work with the same materials and equipment that real forensic scientists use in their everyday job. This interactive track will teach the importance of paying attention to detail while guiding through the thought process of solving a crime, based on evidence.
