There are companies that manufacture recycling bins and container; companies that build recycling collection trucks, recycling processors that collect, separate bundle and ship waste paper and plastic bottles; paper mills that turn waste paper into paper pulp and new paper products; City employees who work in the City Facilities Recycling Program; companies that manufacture new products from old materials: carpeting and clothes from old soda bottles; building materials and insulation from old newspaper; and so on. According to some estimates, jobs in recycling have increased more than 40% from 1991 to 1994 for a total of 20,000 jobs; and there should be about 60,000 recycling-related jobs in California by the year 2000. Every can and bottle you toss into a recycling bin means jobs, new companies and products, and economic development around the State.
