CFRP Brief Overview
Established in June 1991, City Facility Recycling Program is the City's response to the Employer Element of the Source Reduction and Recycling Element (SRRE) under Assembly Bill 939.

Buy Recycled: Closing The Loop
It makes sense to put our purchasing dollars to "close the loop" by buying products with recycled content.
It also makes sense to get manufacturers and suppliers to take back their products for reuse and recycling.

Donation Opportunities
Excess, outdated, off-spec materials discarded by the City Departments can be reused by other City Departments, or made available to the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD). This clearinghouse of information is called the City Materials Exchange (CitiMAX). Reuse avoids disposal of materials. Used greeting cards, wood scraps, used eyeglasses are few of the many items targeted for donation to agencies.

Job Creation
There are lots of jobs all throughout the recycling system, and more being created everyday.

Office Recycling Guidelines
Each employee generates at least half a pound of office paper each day. The workplace is also teeming with materials which can be recycled. Get a good grip of office recycling practices...they are easy to adopt and are actually, fun to do!

Special Events Recycling
Thanks to a grant by the Department of Conservation (DOC), recycling services are now provided to an estimated 1,600 City-sponsored special events. Bike rides walkathons, marathons, community block parties, festivals, even retirement luncheons can be almost waste-free!

Waste Prevention Programs
The solid waste management hierarchy calls to "reduce, reuse, then recycle." Waste prevention starts with the source. If no waste is created from step one...no trash have to be dealt with in the end.
