Have you been to a special event lately?
Chances are you've been to one or two of these events. Thanks to grant by the California Department of Conservation, the City of Los Angeles can now increase recycling of beverage containers and other recyclables at:

Assembly Bill 939 requires Californians to reduce all solid wastes by 50 percent by the year 2000. Recycling at special events diverts wastes from landfills, reduces pollution, conserves energy and natural resources, and boosts the manufacture of products from recycled materials.

Beverage containers are generated at most events.

Other recyclable materials at special events:
* Steel and tin cans *All clean paper (Office paper, newspapers, magazines, chipboard, posters, etc.) * Cardboard and other packaging materials * Wood and metal scraps.

These four actions steps should be incorporated into each special event:

Reduce:
* Minimize flyers, posters and brochures * Avoid excessive packaging * Purchase supplies in bulk
Reuse:
* Use durable/reusable tableware * Use non-disposables:cloth bags, cloth napkins, etc.
* Reuse banners, displays, and other promotional materials * reuse containers, including pallets
Recycle:
* Make recycling as convenient as possible * Provide clearly-marked recycling containers,
*Use materials which can be easily replaced
Buy Recycled:

* Purchase goods made with postconsumer content * Educate your suppliers and
contractors to purchase goods with recycled contents
